This article will help you use ‘Microsoft Copilot’ as a desktop application. By doing so, you won’t have to switch between tabs all day or expand the super-cool Microsoft Edge sidebar. This might interest you if you want to increase your productivity. Don’t worry if you’re not a techie; we’ll create a workaround using the Microsoft Edge Progressive Web App to achieve this!

Before you start:

If you have a license, make sure to use the Copilot licensed account in Microsoft Edge, whether it’s your work account or your personal one. What you want is to benefit from your license, whether you’re at work or at home.

I’ll let you choose the right account and continue the explanation below. You can also keep the online Copilot version open and pinned, but I find the workaround below to be elegant and reliable over time, enabling you to stay close to Copilot and connected all day long.

Instructions:

1— Account connection:

  • Open Microsoft Edge.
  • Click on the avatar on the top right, and then on “+.” Add a profile.
  • A pop-up will appear with a blue button, “Add.”. Please click on this too.
  • A new window is opened automatically.
  • Click on the blue button “Sign in to sync data” (this will connect your Microsoft Edge browser with your desired account, as we are about to add it to the next step).

2 — Progressive Web App Creation:

  • Reach the website https://copilot.microsoft.com/.
  • Click on the three superior dots in your Microsoft Edge browser.
  • Once done, please click on “Apps.”
  • Please click on “Install this site as an App” in the new drop-down.
  • When the pop-up appears, rename it to “Microsoft Copilot”.
  • Please “pin” this new app to the taskbar by right-clicking on the icon.

Et voilà! You will notice a new additional icon on your taskbar for Microsoft Copilot. You are ready to use Copilot all day long now! Congratulations!
